Suitable clematis for my garden

This question was asked by
- Chris

Hello Chris and Suzy.. I am about to replace an arch over a windy path that runs through a circular flower bed and I would like to grow two clematis at either side of the arch so they should meet over the centre of the arch. I have read in my Which magazine that Crystal Fountain is a recommended variety. Would this clematis be good for this location. The soil is well drained and of reasonable quality but the arch is in the open. I would appreciate your thoughts? Chris

Hi Chris it sounds ok to us, as long as the centre of your arch is no higher than about 6 feet ( as this is about as tall as it gets normally, however we have seen some get to about 8feet)

People generally go for viticella types for arches as they just go that bit taller

Anyway

Hope this helps Chris

Clematis

This question was asked by
- Simon

Hi

Could you please recommend me a clematis to go in a container to grow with a early blooming Star Jasmin. I want something to bloom after and die back in the winter.
The container is in partial shade.
Thanks in advance.
Simon

Hi Simon, we have a category on our website which details when all the different clematis bloom (please see link below) you may wish to look at the ones that flower 'june to september' or the ones that flower 'july to October' as these will probably be the best for you. They all die back for the winter too - you can also then sub filter by colour and height which will get you down to a smaller selection of ones that fit the bill for you.

I would stick to the ones that say 'plant any aspect' then the shade factor wont matter, hope this helps here is the link to start you off on your search.
