FAQs

Black Prince

This question was asked by

Hi, I bought a number of clematis from you in 2016 for a new garden and they have all been wonderful. Black Prince though has proved a bit of a thug! and where it is, it is overpowering other things. Could I move it now, by cutting it right back? The base stems are really woody so I am not if this is a good thing to do. Thank you.

Hi Sarah, as a general rule if you cut through any stems that are as thick as your finger then they may never shoot back again from that point. So you will need to select which stems are ok to cut thru using this as a guide and you will also need to get as much of the root out as possible in order for it to survive in its new hole

hope this helps

Best deep purple 10 plus clematis to flower on a rose metal pergola with 12 roses. 6 each of The pilgrim( yellow) and Clair Austin ( creamy yellow) Needs to be easily pruned so had thought of Black Prince and or Warsaw Nike.
Any advice please.

Hi geill yes either of those will do the job, the only info I have for you is that the warsaw nike has the bigger flower out of the 2 so maybe this will swing you one way or the other ?

as all our plants are 2 years old in 2 litre pots and fully hardy, it means that they are fully mature and can be planted at anytime of year, so the sooner they go in the better they will perform this same season.

many thanks chris
