Clematis for apple tree

This question was asked by
Hazel

Please could you recommend a clematis to grow up through a apple tree. I don’t want it to smother the tree so is there one that could be pruned annually?

The tree faces North west and gets the sun from kid day but the roots are mostly in the shade. The tree is approximately 5 metres tall.
Thanking you in advance

Hi Hazel any of our viticella types will be fine up your apple tree, they are very tough and robust and can be cut back every spring, so do not get tangled up in the tree- they are also available in many different colours. As all our plants are 2 years old in 2 litre pots and fully hardy, it means that they are fully mature and can be planted at anytime of year, so the sooner they go in the better they will perform this same season.
Hope this helps, please see link below
